Maryam Mirzakhani
Maryam Mirzakhani was an Iranian mathematician who worked as a professor in America and was the first woman to be awarded a Fields Medal. She worked in the geometry of Riemann surfaces. She graduated from Sharif University of Technology in 1999, immigrated to the United States to continue her studies, and received her doctorate from Harvard University in 2004.
MaryamMirzakhani was born on May 22. She was the third child of family her father was a manager from Alborz when she was in high school she got a gold medal in math and also in two years in row she got complete grade in Olympic math in Canada and Hongkong After that, she received a scholarship from Harvard University and immigrated to America to continue her study after obtaining her doctorate degree, after some years experience of worked as an assistant professor she starts teaching as a professor in second best university in the world (Stanford University). 1356 (May 12, 1977) in Tehran and At the beginning of the summer of 2017 (July 2016) in her 4th decade of her life she was dead due to breast cancer
May 12, corresponding to 22 ordibehesht, the birthday of Professor Maryam Mirzakhani, in memory of her and in recognition of the scientific services of this elite and prominent scientist, was named as International Women’s Day in Mathematics by the International Union of Mathematical Societies.
