It is true that, in most part of the world, people are used to see violent crime through the media such as newspapers and TV. Some people are of the opinion that it has to be prohibited, since that scares people and supports criminals. This essay will explain why I strongly disagree with the idea and explain reasons behind it.
I believe that what outcomes of committing a crime brings to people encourages people not to do the crime. In other words, people try to avoid mistakes, after seeing someone’s suffer from making the mistake. For example, in Uzbekistan, there are two or three TV channels specialized in showing crimes of people, at the same time, their punishment given by the government. Instead of encouraging individuals towards crime, those channels illustrate how stories of people end in a jail, after committing a crime. As a result, people might fear from committing a crime because of the punishments.
Moreover, people get precise story about crime through watching TV or reading newspapers, rather than getting exaggerated one on social media. This is because on social media videos are not checked before uploading, however, in the newspapers and TV programmes, information about crime is checked by the government before being available to people. Another reason why newspapers and TV programmes should cover crime is that it helps policemen to find criminals faster. To explain, in some cases, there has to be some witnesses who see the offender committing a crime and can help with finding that person. Otherwise it would take years to find the criminal.
In conclusion, I completely disagree with people who think media should not cover violent crime. This is because if media do not cover that, it motivates offenders and also people who are not aware of what breaking the law carries to them towards crime.
