Band 4+: Media coverage of violent crime frightens people and encourages criminals. Some people say it should be banned from newspapers and TV programs. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

Today, some people assume that showing materials related to violence and crime can have negative impact on us so we must ban this kind of media. I disagree with this suggestion.

Sensitive content can effect badly in too small scale if the targeted community watches. The biggest newspaper and TV programmes are usual very careful so before posting something they check every detail carefully and put warnings like age restrictions to their products. This means if the audience watches anything considering warnings like potential horror or adult content the problem will be solved. The widely-known website named “IMdB” shows you descriptions about films and TV programs, for example

But, these are not the must-to-follow rules meaning these warnings can be missed. Usually the teenagers bypass the warnings and restrictions out of their curiosty and this case they actually can scare or normalize violence and crimes. That is why corporations are adding functions which help parents to have control over their children. For example the YouTube, it alarms you before potensial unwanted content and offers the “YouTube Kids” designed for the parents.

In conclution, just because the media covers unethical topics does not mean we must ban them considering we have the solutions against potential problems.
