It is sometimes asserted that full-time working men and women should take joint responsibility for domestic chores. In my opinion, I completely agree with this idea given the wider changes in society.
Firstly, in recent years, parents have had to adapt to various changes in today’s societies. In particular, equal rights movements have made great progress, and also, with the rising cost of living, it has become normal for women to gain qualifications, have full-time jobs and pursue a career. Unlike the past, men going to work and women staying at home to do chores and look after their children used to be the case of ancient families, which has been found extremely obsolete these days. At the same time, it is widely recognized that if both males and females have to employ full-time jobs in order to make a living, then there is absolutely no justifiable reason why only women need to take on household duties but men do not.
Secondly, sharing the responsibilities of household chores can greatly reduce burdens on women. Sadly, in the past, females were under enormous pressure from their families, societies as well as their workplace, resulting in a plethora of them being vulnerable to several mental health issues, such as depression or eating disorders. However, I believe that everything has changed nowadays, and I think that if couples divide the household chores, it could significantly reduce strains on females, making them less stressed and more joyful with their lives.
In conclusion, I strongly contend that when both partners are employed full-time, they should both contribute to household chores since it ensures gender equality and decreases burden on women. Given this trend becomes more popular in the future, every couple could promise their lifelong happiness and sustainable growth of one another in terms of physical and mental well-being.
