In modern society, the type of communication is constantly changing. Messaging and email have decreased the time people spend meeting with friends. No doubt, it has advantages and disadvantages. However, is it really so harmful?
On the one hand, a new form of communication has three main benefits. Firstly, nowadays it has become easier to send messages or call friends, watch series together, and meet those who live hundreds of miles away from you, whereas in the past, people communicated by sending letters or using landline phones, which is not as effective as email. Secondly, it reduces the time spent on the road or driving to the meeting point, making networks a faster way that is not as time-consuming as it was in the past. The third benefit is versatility. The modern form of messaging allows us not only to talk whenever we want but also to share photos and make online meetings.
On the other hand, there are some drawbacks to this new type of interaction. In my point of view, technology has had a significant impact on our mental health and communication skills. Nowadays, the average teenager spends more than five hours on the network, which causes addiction that affects many people’s health. Otherwise, meeting with friends in the past was much better, because real meetings developed their social skills, and going out also improves people’s health, unlike in the new society, which has a sedentary lifestyle. I assume that networks cannot fully replace real communication and cause a lot of harm.
In conclusion, I believe that, generally, people live happier lives now. In my view, it’s difficult to argue that the modern way of communication has had only a harmful influence on our social skills. However, we need to make sure that we are not addicted to social networks and still have real meetings with our friends.
