Telecommute has become much more popular in most companies. Beside some advantages it may bring, it also has some negative effects. In my point of view, working at home helps us to save a large amount of time and money. It also fosters employees’ motivation. On the contrary, working at home may get in the way of your social life, making your work-life balance even worse. These aspects are evaluated below.
To start with, I believe working at home helps us saving a tremendous amount of time from commuting to work every day. By this way, you can also save that time for other leisure activities. Going to an office not only includes the time commuting to work, but you also have to wake up earlier to set everything up, making your new day busier. As a result of telecommute, you can have more time for sleeping or other personal activities.
Next, working at home fosters employee’s motivation. Whenever you get tired, you can instantly take a nap for recharging your battery before getting back to work. Consequently, you will be willing to work with more concentration. Moreover, it will ensure that your workflow become smoothier. Because there are no distraction during your work.
Conversely, working at home may easily be an obstruction to your private life. You will find it difficult to draw a clear distinguish between your life and your work. In fact, one of my friends has experienced this problem. He coudn’t manage to schedule his timetable and had no time to hang out with his friends, which made his life monotonous and lacked of variety. Thus, he decided to go to the work office everyday to balance his life.
To summarize, I know that there are both advantages and disadvantages to telecommute. It can help us to save time and money, foster our motivation. But it also makes some people hard to live their life in a leisurely fashion. For those who find woking at home more attractive, it is important for them to faciliate their discipline and draw a clear distinguish between work and life.
