The recent exponential growth of tecnology has led to an extreme accesibility of information online. It is frequently debated whether this fast availability of knowledge is negatevely affecting our society or not. I strongly believe that the countereffects of this phenomenon are outgrownig the posive aspects of it.
Firstly, this immediate chance to create or aquire knowledge has negatively effected the society creating misinformed individuals who strongly believe in the correctness of what they have learned. Moreover, togheter with the ease of retrieving informations, also the facility of creating them has grown significantly. Users of the internet nowdays are exposed to a massive quantity of informations potentially erroneouses or at least not totally trustables.
Secondly, the facility of access to information has made people incapable of gathering those in alternative ways. Conversely, in the last decades acquiring academic knowledge has progressevely becomed easier and rapid. While in the past finding informations about a topic would might need several days, the same task today would take literally seconds. Although this might seem positive in terms of learning more, it is quite dangerous as it leads to an incapability of striving to find the right information. The aforementioned phenomenon is strictly correlated to the one explained before: not being used to look hard for information can influence the ability of recognising whether a source of information is trustable or not.
In conclusion I would adfirm that the rapid and uncontrolled access to and exchange of information that tecnology has now allowed can be considered dangerous for our society. Therfore it is extremely relevant that everybody learns to make a correct and concious use of this resource we have, without letting go of foundamental capabilities such as researching and mantaining scepticism in front of new informations.
