It is true that many people who possess the quality of competitiveness have achieved great success. There are several reasons for this capability and I believe that this particular trait has both positive and negative effects on people. However, it is positive generally.
On the other hand, a competitive behavior of the society paralyzes the social life of individuals. There are some negative effects on competitiveness. First of all, if some people only focus on competitiveness, they would not make deep relationships with others. As a result, they feel ostracized because people escape persons who are very concerned only about themselves. Moreover, Over-competitiveness may hinder people from some opportunities due to a lack of team spirit. If people work individually instead of working with others, they cannot be able to form an efficient team which their struggles lead to success.
At the individual level, competitiveness provides incentives for people to improve themselves which lead to a more successful life. Competitiveness, as an important quality, has two main positive effects on humans’ lives. Firstly, people need competitiveness in their careers. Not only employers require their own employee’s competitive abilities, but also customers and consumers need competitive products from their suppliers. Secondly, Competition in schools can lead to a variety of positive behaviors. Teachers push students to study hard to achieve the top positions in the class. This pressure leads students to study more thoroughly and therefore receive a better overall education.
