It is widely acknowleged that various household goods like television, microwave oven and rice cooker are purchased in today’s society. In my opinion, while the trend can be beneficial, detrimental effects should be taken into consideration.
The increasing consumption of domestic products can lead to several major benefits. One of the most important advantages is that buying more goods means that the buyers own a diversity of technological devices which facilitate their housework. As a result, these individuals have more time to spend on other purposes, such as entertainment or education, so their living quality can be improved. Furthermore, when the demand for consumer goods is higher, the production of these products will be increased. This can promote trading among these sectors, creating employment opportunities and thereby improving national economy.
Despite these beneficial outcomes, the impulsive purchase of these items would be disadvantageous for some compelling reasons. First, if the consumption and production of household goods is escalated, more energy and materials are required. Therefore, in order to have these adequate resources, human beings have to exploit natural resources, putting the environment at risk, and it is difficult to mitigate this issue in the long run. Another serious factor worth mentioning is that this tendency can cause consumerism contributing to creating a materialistic society. This means that people tend to make efforts to just earn money to possess these items, making them undervalue other priorities in life.
In conclusion, I believe that although there are valid arguments for the merits of buying more and more household goods, the downsides should not be underestimated.
