There is an increasing trend of spending money on their appearance to look younger .This essay will first outline the underlying reasons before concluding that this is a negative development.
Spending large amounts of money on appearance can be attributed to two main reasons. One of these relates to the widespread use of social media. Platforms such as Tiktok or Facebook often showcase individuals boasting or showing off their material wealth and luxurious lifestyles. This, in turn, instills in people a fear of missing out, which is undeniably a contributor to exorbitant expenses on their appearance. Another contributory factor is the advertisement’s fraudulent marketing strategies. These advertisements often prey on customer’s expectations and aspirations to achieve an ideal body image, so they would spend a colossal amount of money in order to be younger without carefully considering the dire repercussions attached to it.
Spending money on appearance in order to look younger comes at the expense of more pronounced problems. First, appearance obsession might undeniably escalate into a social divide based on economic status which further exacerbates the problem of social inequality on a grander scale. In addition to this, fraudulent commercials might further deteriorate a customer’s overall well-being as these marketing strategies make false promises about an ideal body image within a short period of time by using numerous toxic chemicals. This, in turn, leads to overreliance on these supplements as well as psychological issues such as stress, depression or anxiety when not fulfilling their ideal body image.
In conclusion, I firmly believe that widespread use of social media and commercials’ strategies are main reasons to spend money on appearance to look younger. However, this is a negative development due to its social problems and serious repercussions it could cause.
