Positive And Negative

Band 7+: More and more people want to study at university, so competition of university places is increasing. Why do more people want to study at university? Is it positive or negative?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

With contemporary standards in higher education and more employment opportunities, it has become increasingly for individuals, especially young people, to study at universities. As a result, the demand for university places is rising. This trend raises questions about the reasons why people have a strong desire to pursue university degrees and I personally believe that this is a desirable change, as it provides better job options for them.

A key reason for studying at university lies in the employment prospects associated with globalization since modern universities require highly skilled workers who possess specialized knowledge and advanced qualifications. The more young people study at universities, the more likely they are to gain deeper knowledge, thus leading them to find lucrative jobs after graduating higher educations. This is due to the fact that competitive edge in many educational institutions has become increasingly intense. Furthermore, another case is that higher educational systems are formed in teaching main subjects, such as maths, chemistry and English. This can not only offer well-paid job options but also help them to broaden their horizons and soft skills.

Additionally, I contend that this bring more benefits than drawbacks, as it fosters higher productivity and social mobility. If individuals enrol in institutions of greater education, they will be able to expand their knowledge and stimulate problem-solving abilities. This is mainly because many universities produce skilled individuals like researchers and innovators, enabling graduators to find well-paid jobs around the world. Consequently, such kind of people can develop country’s economy by creating their own businesses. For example, many universities, including MIT, TUM as well as the university of Toronto, produce a numerous skilled students globally, leading them to be capable of finding lucrative job options.

In conclusion, the growing desire to pursue university education is largely driven by better career prospects, societal expectations, and the need for advanced skills in a globalised world. While this trend brings challenges such as increased competition, I believe the overall impact is positive, as it equips individuals with the knowledge and qualifications necessary to succeed in modern society.
