Nowadays, more and more individuals give up using newspaper and watching TV to obtain news. Instead, they begin to opt Internet. For my perspective, the drawbacks of Internet overweigh the benefits.
On the one hand, it is undeniable that Internet has brought enormous advantages to human. For example, Internet frees people from geographical and time constraints, placing a wealth of news immediately at their fingertips. In contrast, newspaper relies on specific shops to sell as well as relatively larger space to bring, which is less convenient. Time to print the newspapers is also high, which leads to lower efficiency. Moreover, the internet facilitates the quest of news. With a smartphone or an ipad, people now access numerous knowledge that internet offers. If wisely utilized, the internet which is home to various medias, can make us broaden our horizons and knowledge.
On the other hand, Internet has a lot of adverse effects on human beings. A major weakness is the misinformation and rumors saturated in it. Much of the news spread rapidly without fact-checking, often driven by the profit of monetary gains. These fake news mainly come from tiny media owned by individual or media companies in other countries. This dangerous phenomenon may triggers widespread public panic. Besides, electronic devices can take a toll on people’s health. Excessive use of eyes to glue on screen may lead to eyestrain. Even worse, myopia. From a different angle, sedentary lifestyle increases the risk of obesity since a lack of physical activity.
In conclusion, people should develop critical thinking to think about both sides of internet, so that internet can be our equipment, not master.
