Traditional celebrations have taken place in all countries for many years. In my perspective, these celebrations have a significant importance to our society, and there are two main reasons for this: it has cultural value and it benefits our community both socially and economically. I will explain and give examples from my own experiences in the following paragraphs.
First and foremost, celebrations have had a cultural value as it preserves and passes down the traditions of our community from one generation to another. In other words, our ancestors and older generations are able to share the customs and beliefs that they have with the younger generation. This can be seen during the Lunar New Year festival in Vietnam, which is an integral part of Vietnamese culture. This holiday is to worship ancestors, and family members, despite busy schedules, gather together to enjoy traditional dishes such as ‘Banh Chung’ and exchange lucky money in red envelopes.
Furthermore, celebrations help the community to relieve stress and strengthen relationships. Nowadays, many people are living in modern cities where they have heavy workloads and do not have much time to interact with others. However, celebrations allow them to have precious moments to slow down and connect with family and friends, as well as meet new people. This also has an economic benefit for the local community. For example, during Christmas in New York City, many tourists travel to the city to experience the festive atmosphere, which greatly boosts the local economy through sales of gifts, food, and decorations.
In conclusion, I believe that traditional celebrations are meaningful occasions that benefit our society. They help preserve cultural identity and connect people, as well as strengthen our relationships with others.
