It is sometimes believed that in order to address traffic congestion, bigger roads should be built. I fully agree that the construction of wider roads is a positive development, as they improve traffic flow and help people save valuable time.
Constructing wider roads can be highly beneficial in reducing traffic congestion. When governments expand road capacity, drivers are much less likely to face traffic bottlenecks. In other words, roads with four or five lanes are significantly more effective than those with only two or three. Baku, for instance, is one of the cities struggling with severe congestion; however, recently, it has reduced these problematic situations by developing large road systems containing roundabouts, tunnels, and bridges. As a result, expanding roads allows the overall flow of traffic to speed up.
Another point to consider is that people need to avoid wasting time due to traffic jams. Expanding roads can be a decisive factor when individuals are in a hurry to reach their destinations. Most employees and students get stuck in traffic when trying to reach their workplaces or universities. This problem is closely linked to daily schedules, as almost all public and private institutions begin and end at the same time. For example, a large number of citizens set off for their destinations at around 8-9 a.m., and the return period peaks at around 5-6 p.m. Ignoring these rush hours by failing to expand road infrastructure negatively impacts a country’s entire transport system.
In conclusion, I agree with those who believe that it is important to build wider roads, as this enables the smooth flow of traffic and allows commuters to save time.
