whether companies should be required to fill a certain percentage of higher positions by allocating females is a question of thorough analysis. Females, despite being majority of the workforce, are falling behind in the higher work positions. While securing a percentage of positions for women give them encouragement, it also raises question about level-playing field and competence. I strongly disagree with the proposition that women should be provided with extra benifits in work places.
First of all, higher position candidates of a company require certain qualities. Competence, experience, clear-headedness and composure etc. are some of the qualities that should be considered before selecting someone for a higher position. By giving gender advantage to women violates necessary measures that should be taken to evaluate candidates.
Additionally, ensuring equal opportunity for both male and females is directly related to companies’ success. Promotion-led jobs are highly competitive. Employees are generally motivated by rewards and promotions. When wemens are assigned to higher positions by default, it creates uneven competition between male and female employees and thus, causes loss of enthusiasm among male workers in many cases.
In contrast, people might argue that ensuring higher positions for women would make women more encouraged to their work. Though this view has some merit but I think women employees can be motivated by other means like rewards and bonuses.
In conclusion, I remain strongly unconvinced that women should get additional benefits in terms of positions because it promotes inequality and gender-biasedness.
