It is widely argued that the majority of top-level positions in companies are acquired by men, even though more than 50% of employees in many developed countries are women. Companies should mandatorily allocate a certain percentage of those jobs to females. I completely agree with the notion that a certain level of reservations should be provided to women in jobs. Firstly, women are at the same skill level as male workers in many companies and universities. Secondly, women need to face many hurdles in their lives, while men usually don’t need to experience these hardships.
Despite women outperforming men in most companies and universities, women are still underpaid and do not receive the same level of promotions as men. Many women who perform the same job are less appreciated and rewarded in comparison to men. Men are mostly favored over women for different kinds of roles, which creates gender bias against women. For example, a recent study shows that women are likely to get paid 17% less than the men in the same workplace.
Women have to go through many difficulties in their lives during their work, such as cycles of menstruation and gestational period. These experiences can seriously affect their job, but they still perform their jobs decently. On the other hand, men do not need to suffer from these issues, while women have to balance their own personal issues along with professional work at the same time. For instance, over 70% of female employees suffer from severe menstruation but never ask for help or time off, maintaining high performance despite physical discomfort.
In conclusion, women deserve an equal share of roles because they are capable of outshining males despite the many hardships they face in their careers. It is recommended that companies provide more opportunities for women and make hiring and promotion practices fairer.
