Nowadays, telvision shows and flicks provide a great source of information to the people. It is argued that these entertainmnet platforms ought to not be used to study history because they do not have a depth knowledge in this field. I acknowledge this view with some reservations and justifies this phenomenon with well- reasoned arguments.
On the one hand, it is unequivocal that this entertainment industry does not provide accurate information about past. They just collect data from books, websites and from people. Moreover, they do not do proper researches and also make changes in original events of history. To exemplify, a movie called ‘Padmavat’ faced a lot of critiscm because their director did some changes in the ending scenes of movie which contradict with the original one. Many people filed a case in high court and and want to banned the movie. After this whole critism, director decided to change the ending scence.
On the other hand, it must not be ignored that, learn about ancient times from books is bit complicated for people who do not concentrate and focus on something for longer period of time. But, they are interested to know about their past, so it is good for them to gain knowledge from these tv platforms. Especially, for children who do not know about our past like sacrifices of people, wars and many more. So, it will be a great medium for them to learn . For example, there is a television show called ‘Mahabharat’ which provide a depth knowledge and guidance to the all age groups. And, it is a most popular tv shows. Because, the actors indulge themselves in their characters, their visulas and dialouges are all great.
It is a mixed blessings. I am in a favour of balanced approach. From my perspective, firstly directors and producers should research about all the facts and beliefs of history thoroughly and show to the people what it was.
