The gradually increasing of elderly population, resulting in creating an ageing society in many parts of the world, surely has both pros and cons in many aspects. Although, in my opinion, the disadvantages of such society triumphs over advantages.
Talking about advantages of having more elderly people, firstly is about mentality of people, especially families, which might be better and happier if elders are living longer. Because the elders are parts of many families and social groups, losing either a significant person in your life or a family person can causes endless grief and struggling in life. Secondly, is mainly about developments of knowledges, technologies, and medical treatments. Living longer means more health concerns and inconveniences in daily life, the problems such as diabetes, alzheimers, movements, and a lot more, also more people living longer means more and variant problems, moreover, developments of innovations and findings start from curiosity and problems. Hence, the growing of elderly population equals to the progression and succession of new findings, innovations, technologies, and treatments.
Despite the advantages, the disadvantages from ageing society seems far more crucial. Starts with the economy, the ascending of elders indicates the descending of labors in working age. This could possibly causes the downfall of economy in that country, because the fact that less workers, less payers, and lastly, less money circulating in the economy system. Next is, the burden given to younger population, firstly is the economics which had said before, younger people need to work harder due to lack of labors, secondly is about caring those elders, which can be a big burden financially and physically. Financially, the living cost of an elder can be high when including the cost of medical treatments and medicine, the cost of activities for them, etc. Physically, comforting and caring elders to be happy can be harsh, considering the time need and elders’ emotions that are swing due to aged body and mind. And this is just some examples for disadventages of ageing society.
In conclusion, the growing of ageing society in varieties of country can have both advantages and disadvantages. Personally, it is evident that the disadvantages of the rising of elderly population can lead to crucial problems and difficulty in society.
