Given the whole world media coverage in this current age, it raises many concerns about newspapers probably shaping mass mindset and perception as well. As a new era digital native, I suppose that newspapers moulding opinions has its own pros and cons, although I believe this to be positive because of some reasons which are explained in the below essay.
One notable benefit of newspapers affecting public awareness is that people would enhance their awareness and hold them in power accountable. Through investigative journalism, the public always keep themselves informed about current affairs and daily updates. A clear evidence for contributions of news reveals in forecasting global climate change, a thought-provoking issue which is now directly impacting on human’s life. In this way, newspapers generally caution the world to respond with the negative evolvement of the environment, playing a key role in preventing human well-being from both inner and outer risks.
Besides, journalism makes sense in promoting the clarity and exactness of information and social responsibility. By broadcasting the news to all people, newspapers are considered to be a supervised means to government and public agencies. For example, journalism helped to expose a series of criminal behaviours in political structure in Vietnam 2024. This proves the great contribution of the media in managing and developing the society, holding mass with social-mindedness.
However, newspapers in fact cause some bad effects to public perception, raising waves of indignation. One reason for this state comes from the lack of objectivity, driving viewers’ belief into wrong paths, leading misunderstandings and then occupying personal profit. Particularly in the presidential elections, through broadcasting inaccurate information, journalists can make media bias probably become a crucial factor deciding the winner. Nevertheless, issues do not entirely lay on the role of newspapers, it also depends on the managing contents uploaded. Verifying information helps enhance people’s awareness, minimize the negative influences on society.
Despite still existing some potential risks, I think journalism affecting the public is a positive factor. Journalism itself contribute to enhance the mass responsibility and ensure the human and social well-being.
