In the current times, the number of people who prefer alternative medicines and treatments over visiting doctors are booming. In my opinion, it can be a detrimental development for societies due to some compelling reasons.
Firstly, adopting alternative therapies might bring about further health problems. That is because home-remedies and traditional drugs are generally recommended by individuals who lack adequate knowledge and expertise. This can in turn have unknown side effects that might contribute to degradation of one’s illness, if not causing new diseases. To illustrate this, using excessive amounts of a certain herbal medicine to alleviate a chronic health issue, such as stomachache, might culminate in a more severe health condition, like gastritis.
In addition, refusing to visit doctors and pharmecists might put an end to their careers. Although, as for today, individuals still pursue pharma-related studies and jobs, the loss of interest in approaching them for treatments may coincide with a significant decline in their numbers, as there are no patients willing to use their help. To put it another way, if people persist on using home-remedies instead of proper treatments, less and less individuals will be interested in enrolling medicine courses. Therefore, the future generations are bound to be threatened by scarcity of professionals doctors and pharmacists.
In conclusion, the newly emerged trend of replacing experts with conventional cures might result in severe problems for societies. Amid many side-effects of this phenomena, exacerbation of individuals’ well-being and lack of experts are the most remarkable. Hence, I believe it ought to be considered as a negative development.
