Band 9: Nowadays, celebrities are more famous for their glamour and wealth than for their achievements, and this has set a bad example for young children. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

In contemporary society, celebrities often gain recognition more for their style and financial status than for their genuine accomplishments. This trend raises concerns about the example set for young people. I agree with the notion that focusing on superficial attributes sets a poor precedent for the youth.

Firstly, when public figures are celebrated primarily for their lifestyle rather than their talents or contributions, it encourages young people to value appearance and wealth over hard work and integrity. This shift in values can detract from the importance of personal development and education. For instance, teenagers may prioritize imitating the lavish lifestyles of celebrities instead of pursuing meaningful academic or career goals. This can ultimately impede their long-term success and personal growth. In summary, prioritizing lifestyle over achievement can have negative effects on the values and priorities of young people.

Secondly, portraying wealth and appearance as the ultimate measures of success can create unrealistic expectations and pressures among the youth. Many young individuals may feel inadequate if they cannot meet these standards, leading to issues like low self-esteem and anxiety. The constant exposure to curated images and extravagant lifestyles on social media intensifies this problem, making it difficult for young people to distinguish between reality and illusion. To summarize, the emphasis on appearance and wealth can contribute to mental health challenges among young people.

In conclusion, while some celebrities use their influence to promote positive values, the predominant trend of celebrating style and financial status over genuine achievements can set a negative example for young people. It is essential for society to encourage the youth to value meaningful accomplishments and critically evaluate the messages they receive from the media. This approach can help guide them towards a more balanced and fulfilling life.
