Band 9: Nowadays, celebrities are more famous for their glamour and wealth than for their achievements, and this has set a bad example for young children. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

In today’s society, celebrities are often admired more for their wealth and glamorous lifestyles than for their actual achievements. This trend negatively affects young people, promoting superficiality over hard work and genuine success. While some argue that such fame can inspire ambition, it often creates unrealistic goals and a distorted view of success.

One major issue is that the glorification of wealth and glamour shifts focus from the value of perseverance and hard work. Many young people now prioritize social media fame over academic or professional achievements. For instance, reality TV stars gain popularity simply by showcasing their extravagant lifestyles, which sends the message that success can be achieved without effort or skill. This can mislead impressionable youth into chasing shallow goals instead of striving for personal growth or excellence.

Additionally, while some celebrities engage in philanthropy or advocacy, their efforts are often overshadowed by their luxury-driven public personas. For example, their charitable contributions frequently receive less attention than their lavish parties or expensive purchases. This reinforces the idea that financial status and appearances are more important than ethical or professional contributions. However, it is important to recognize that not all celebrities fall into this category. Many are celebrated for their genuine accomplishments, such as breakthroughs in arts, sports, or science. The problem largely lies in societal perceptions, which often prioritize glamour over substance.

In conclusion, although some celebrities are positive role models, the widespread celebration of wealth and extravagance undermines essential values like integrity and perseverance. By focusing on superficial success, society sets a harmful precedent for young people, encouraging them to idolize lifestyles that may not be achievable or meaningful. To foster a healthier culture, we must celebrate authenticity, hard work, and real achievements over mere displays of luxury.
