Band 7+: Nowadays children watch much more television than they did in the past and spend less time being active or creative. What is the reason for this? What measures should be taken to encourage children to be more active?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

As a result of technological advanements in recent years, it has become more common than ever for children to put vast amount of their time into watching television rather than, playing outdoor games like badmintion and cricket to become more active and creative. While there are some seemingly unavoidable causes, such as technological growth and lack of outdoor space . these issues could be adressed by both parents and government by taking some proper actions and to encourage children to live more active lifestyles.

One of the main reasons for this issue is the rapid development of technology. Modern children have easy access to televisions, smartphones, tablets, and online streaming platforms. These devices provide endless entertainment, which often keeps children indoors for long periods. As a result, they become less interested in outdoor games such as badminton, football, or cricket. Another contributing factor is the lack of safe and accessible outdoor spaces in many urban areas. With increasing urbanization, playgrounds and parks are often replaced by buildings and roads, leaving children with fewer opportunities to play outside.

To address this problem, both parents and governments need to take effective steps. Parents should limit their children’s screen time and encourage them to participate in physical activities. For example, they can involve their children in sports, outdoor games, or creative hobbies such as painting, reading, or playing musical instruments. Family activities like cycling or visiting parks can also motivate children to stay active.

At the same time, governments should invest in developing safe parks, playgrounds, and sports facilities for young people. Schools can also play an important role by organizing regular sports events and promoting physical education.

In conclusion, although technological development and limited outdoor spaces have contributed to increased television watching among children, proper guidance from parents and improved recreational facilities can help children become more active and creative.
