Nowadays, countries are becoming more equal, as people are using the same social media. In the forthcoming sentences, I will discuss the advantages and disadvantages of the issue.
There are certain benefits to using shared social platforms. First of all, it allows us to develop cultural communication, letting people from different countries share cultural values and new ideas more easily. This can promote international understanding and reduce bias. Secondly, usage of the same social networks contributes to spreading global news and specific knowledge. Individuals have the opportunity to be informed immediately with worldwide problems, scientific innovations regardless of their location by platforms, such as tiktok, Instagram and Facebook. It increases awareness and education all over the world.
However, I believe the most significant downside is that the cultural identity may be eroded by domination of the same platform, if the public is naive. The other drawback is that these digital communities are controlled by a large corporation which causes fear of leakage of personal data. In addition, social communities work as “bubbles”, users consume contents that fits their views. For instance, the political propaganda in social media changes opinion of viewers by brainwashing consequently, this limits critical thinking and perception of reality.
To summarise, while there are concerns about leakage of information and diminishment of cultural uniqueness, I feel the pros of developing peaceful understanding outweigh the cons since drawbacks are less significant.
