In today’s modern world, employees switch their jobs quite often rather than serving their original employers until retirement. In this essay, I’ll explore some reasons behind the high employee turnover rate and what procedures and practices employers can implement to overcome this phenomenon.
Employees these days switch their employers frequently. There can be plenty of reasons but two of the most important ones are career progression and better work life balance. It is observed that those employees who stick to the same employer for quite a long time find themselves hard to move up in hierarchy in workplace environment. This leads to less earning power and, consequently, less financial freedom. However, young workforce comprehends this issue and, therefore, tries to switch their employers as soon as they find a suitable opportunity. Furthermore, young employees nowadays highly value the importance of work life balance on account of more awareness regarding their health, family commitments, and employee workplace rights, which their elder generation seems to compromise on.
Corporations have multiple tools on their hand to retain their employees and to keep the turnover low. First, they can incentivize their employees by linking the salary structure with their performance and timely incrementing their salaries not just to keep it in line with soaring inflation but also providing them enough to support their families. This will ensure that commitment and loyalty of the employees towards the employer for a longer period of time. Second, firms can provide their employees better work place environment with flexibility to work from home, paying any overtime, and training them for future skills. All these measures will help employers to lower the employee turnover and retain them for longer time period.
A high employee turnover in recent times is a pressing issue for employers. The recurrent switching of employers by employees can be attributed to achieving a higher designation promptly and a secure and balanced work-life environment. Consequently, employers can retain the employees longer by proving them better and timely financial incentives and upgrading their skills levels.
