In recent years, the rapid advancement of technology has effected our lives in an extended way. Due to these improvements, video games are expanding in both quality and quantity every day and children are their main target group. This has brought some advantages in spite of their creativity, and some drawbacks like various health issues. I firmly believe that its downsides surpass the benefits.
A benefit which can be mentioned regarding video games is about the language learning. It is pretty common for games to be programmed with English, so it would be beneficial for non-native players to become familiar with another language and even be fluent in. for example, although my brother did not participate in any English classes during his childhood and afterwards, he managed to learn it by playing video games .additionally, computer games provoke children’s creativity and allows them to plan visual strategies. Many online and offline games require high levels of imagination, moreover, sometimes players are part of a group and being able to handle team work is obligatory. As a result, improvement of innovations and co-working might be observed.
However, there are many disadvantages related to digital games. One obvious issue is lack of face-to-face interaction with other players.it is a necessity for children and teenagers to communicate with their peers in real life, shaping friendships and social contacts with people of their own age would assist kids to enhance their personalities in the future. For example, a survey which was carried out recently in Brazil claims that children who played football in the streets are more likely to be mentally stable than those who were behind their computer screens all the time. Furthermore, using only computer games will lead to different disorders. Absence of physical activity is the main cause of obesity and gaining weight, also other sicknesses such as weak eyesight, headaches and backaches are probable due to the long term usage of computer.
In conclusion, this essay is on the idea that even though video games may benefit children in some ways, it is clear that its downsides outweigh the positive perspectives.
