In recent years, a considerable number of people have attended various online platforms in order to do personal activities such as shopping, depositing and saving money at e-banks, and hanging out with their friends online created by other dimensional rooms instead of stepping out of their houses in what they used to do in the past. This dramatic trend can be attributed to people’s desire to save time and to stay connected with others even physically remote. Nevertheless, this modern development could be seen in a negative light as it often leads to poor health and a lack of essential human interactions.
One of the reasons why so many people prefer going online is partly because they are capable of saving amounts of time compared to the conventional one. With the rapid improvement of e-commerce websites and net banking services to make people’s lives much better than in the past years, they can have their orders delivered to their doorsteps, or even complete a transaction from the comfort of their home. As a result of such technological advancement, they can save an enormous amount of time that they can possibly use for more productive activities. Additionally, online communication has made it possible to stay connected with others regardless of geological location. Thanks to the advent of email including Gmail and online chat apps such as LINE, Facebook or Instagram, everyone now is able to send messages or make online calls virtually free of charge as long as the internet is available.
However, I believe that overreliance on the internet is rather negative considering some possible consequences. First of all, even though this fashionable trend spread among the hearts of young people today might be very helpful, it can lead to the deterioration of a person’s health and ability to make valuable judgements along with the traditional interactions with each other. It is often pointed out that people likely have a sedentary lifestyle, as they typically keep sitting at a desk for about eight to nine hours a day without working out either in an office or at home, which means the perception of trying to exercise is more lacking than ever. In addition, socialising online could cause worst-case scenarios due to fragile relationships between them without face-to-face conversation which used to mainly represent socialised style. Basically, online communication with others is based on text in a chat box, and it is also quite challenging to read the true feelings of others because there is no body language or facial expression when communicating in person.
Based on the above, although it is certain that people now use online services t save time and stay in touch with others, the fashionable tendency is rather worrisome because they engage in exercise less frequently and cannot reap the benefit that in-person interactions have to offer.
