Currently, there have been more working areas using machines. While this trend can bring certain demerits, I believe that they are eclipsed by the merits.
There are several drawbacks for using machines to complete work. First of all, more jobs are taken by engine means that more workers are unemployed, causing a problem in the society’s stability. Moreover, it can be seen that the purchasing price and the running cost of a machine is expensive. Especially when the mechanism has breakdowns, there will be an additional cost for machines’ maintenance because of hiring an expert or skilled person. This is because having malfunctions of machines fixed immediately is hard to be conducted by a normal person.
However, many benefits of applying machines in work are experienced. First, people choose to use machines to avoid dangerous situations. In many countries, there are many risky jobs, which require proper training and safe guidance, like welding electrical devices or metal cutting. In fact, because of earning more money to enhance life, some people who lack relevant knowledge and safety awareness or without safety certifications choose to work hazardous jobs. As a consequence, some of them had health problems or serious injuries like missing arms. Therefore, using machines to complete tasks can efficiently prevent these situations. Furthermore, robot’s productivity is higher than that of humans. A robot can work continuously without rest but a normal person can not. Thus, it is likely to be more optimal to use machines rather than humans, especially in contemporary manufactures and factories, leading to increased productivity and time efficiency.
In conclusion, although using machines does cause unemployment and expensive maintenance, it is believed to be more productive in the working environment.
