Businesses use various means of advertisement to get the word out about the products and services they offer. One of the ways they utilize is sponsoring sporting events, and while some people think it takes away from enjoying the events, others believe it supports the sports and the people involved. I personally agree with this statement.
While watching sports, there are multiple forms of advertisements packed into a small period of time, which sometimes can be annoying and affect the level of enjoyment for the audience. Interruption of key moments in the game as well as delaying events to read a message from a sponsor have a negative effect on both sides, meaning the spectators will be mad at the commercial, and the company will fail to connect with potential customers because they are not in the right state of mind.
With that being said, the money collected from commercials and other forms of promotion funds the sport and supporting businesses. Without the financial backing of companies, the events will not be as large as they are now. There are also service providers that benefit from these events and they are paid by money collected from fans and advertisers. For instance, the World Cup is a big event that is broadcasted for the world, and this wouldn’t be possible if there were no companies investing in these games.
In conclusion, while I understand the disdain for annoying promotions, I believe advertisement is beneficial to the growing economy of sport, and the community should embrace it.
