Positive And Negative

Band 9: Nowadays, more people travel abroad for tourism than ever before.Do you think this is a positive or negative development?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

It has been observed that international travel has become increasingly popular in recent years. Although some people believe that traveling abroad for tourism may have negative consequences, I agree with the given statement to a large extent. The following paragraphs will explore both perspectives before presenting a well-reasoned conclusion.

From the standpoint of those supporting the first opinion, the main justification is that international travel exposes individuals to diverse cultures. This is primarily due to the fact that tourists interact with local communities, participate in traditional events, and experience new lifestyles firsthand. In addition, they argue that tourism contributes to economic growth, because foreign visitors spend money on accommodation, food, and attractions. For this reason, many people remain convinced that traveling abroad offers significant advantages and should be encouraged as a beneficial activity.

On the other hand, advocates of the alternative position present a different line of reasoning. They suggest that increased tourism can lead to environmental damage, on the grounds that overcrowded destinations generate pollution and strain local resources. Moreover, they claim that cultural traditions may be diluted, given that tourist demands sometimes alter authentic practices. For example, popular historical sites like Venice and Machu Picchu struggle with both preservation and mass tourism. Consequently, supporters of this perspective are confident that limiting international travel delivers more tangible outcomes.

To conclude, both viewpoints regarding the rise of international tourism carry valid arguments. However, I personally agree that it is a positive development, as it seems to offer more long-lasting and practical benefits in terms of cultural understanding and economic growth compared to the alternative perspective.
