In contemporary society, there is a downward trend across many countries in demand of students who pursue science subjects at university. I will provide explanations and consequences of this phenomenon.

First of all, it is due to the revolution in technology. Internet allowed people to communicate with others and share opinions and thoughts in the distance. In addition, it affected significantly on young people by giving a huge amount of freedom to implement their ideas. For instance, social media such as Instagram and Youtube embrace creative individuals, awarding with money for their videos. Secondly, many countries started to encourage small and medium businesses in order to gain adequate amount of taxes. By endowing citizens with financial support and helping to solve the problems with laws, the entrepreneurship saw the increase in popularity. Finally, the luck of interest in youths. The curiosity in STEM has decreased slightly because of complexity of some ideas. Young people found it challenging to comprehend entirely each information about science.

This trend has profound consequences on society. Firstly, it leads to a shortage of skilled professionals in critical fields like medicine, engineering, environmental science, and technology, which are essential for societal advancement. For instance, a decline in medical researchers or climate scientists could slow down progress in combating global health crises or addressing environmental challenges. Secondly, it hampers innovation and technological advancement. Science is the foundation of innovation, and without enough experts in the field, countries may struggle to compete in the global economy, risking their technological and economic competitiveness. Lastly, societal development can become imbalanced. Overemphasis on non-scientific fields might create a workforce that is not equipped to tackle pressing global issues such as energy sustainability, disease outbreaks, or food security. This can lead to increased reliance on other countries for expertise and solutions, further diminishing a nation’s self-reliance.

In conclusion, the decline in students pursuing science subjects is influenced by the rise of technology, the appeal of entrepreneurship, and the perceived complexity of STEM fields. This trend poses significant challenges to societal progress, highlighting the urgent need for strategies to make science more appealing and accessible to younger generations
