Media is the most powerful source of knowledge and information in today’s era which does have a strong influence on the thinking of the public. For this reason, some people argue that advertising causes harm to human’s lives. From my perspective, advertisements can do both harm and good to people.
On the one hand, it is true that adverts could result in dire consequences to individuals. First and foremost, advertisements normally give away subliminal messages which prompt customers to buy numerous products, even to make unnecessary purchases to follow passing trends. As a result, some people might be put into unwanted heavy financial burdens, which is detrimental to their mental well-being. In addition, most advertising tends to contain misleading information which would exaggerate a product’s quality and functions. This might easily let customers down when they buy and use that item as it would turn out to be not as good as they expected.
On the other hand, there is a definite possibility that advertising might lead to several dazzling benefits for both customers and businesses. Firstly, advertisements offer individuals an array of choices when they go shopping or consider purchasing a particular type of product. Therefore, they would be more likely to buy an item which is the most cost-effective among a wide range of similar products. Furthermore, companies can also benefit from advertisements. This is because the more their products are advertised, the more likely people will get to know about them. As a result, they will not only be able to gain potential customers but also to increase their brand names; thus, to boost sales revenues.
In conclusion, although I believe that advertising might have certain pernicious impacts on people’s lives, I maintain that it can still do wonders for both customers and companies.
