It is argued that many fresh graduates also face challenges at work related to soft-skills ability professionally. Possible reasons, both personal and institutionally, trigger the lack of interpersonal skills in the working environment, thus the goals of achievement for the student in educational system need to be rearranged, and the teaching methods are improved, for solving this issue.
Producing cum-laude graduated students with a high score of GPAs is the main goal of many universities. This target has been pursuing students struggling individually to get maximum scores in class. The habit of competition in student’s behavior constructs the individualist character to the adults. In addition, the syllabus at the college generally only focuses on cognitive subjects, for instance, language, introduction theory, and basic philosophy, such as written in the national regulations of curriculum education in many countries.
To handle these phenomena, academic institutions have to initiate such activities, not only prioritising competition for the student’s achievements but also togetherness between civitas academica. Innovation to bring quality time and interactions between others to celebrate success can support students’ soft-skills ability, particularly in sharing happiness. On the other hand, Lecturer’s creativity needs to be developed for creating an interactive class using student-centred learning and a project-based approach. For example, students who already joined to a study group and organizing committee have more experiences in working together.
To sum up, activities supporting interpersonal skills of the new employees can be implemented by evaluating the educational system at the university, particularly in the aim of syllabus and methods of learning at class. Being well in working as a team is the result can be obtained for the fresh graduates from universities balancing knowledge and skills in its goals.
