Band 8+: Nowadays, there is an increase in social problems including teenagers. Many people think that it is because parents spend more time at work and less time with children. Do you agree or disagree?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

In the modern era, increasing social problems involving teenagers have become an essential part of everyday discussion. It is often said that these issues arise because parents spend more time at work and less with their children. However, other people believe that various external factors contribute to such problems. In this essay, I will examine both sides of the argument and provide my overall opinion.

Usually, there are two main ideas that support the argument that parents’ absence is a key reason behind teenagers’ problems.Perhaps the main reason why people are in favor of this view is because parental guidance plays a crucial role in shaping a child’s behavior. Without consistent supervision, teenagers may develop bad habits or associate with the wrong peers. A good illustration of this is that many studies link poor academic performance or behavioral issues to a lack of parental involvement.A further point in favor of this perspective is that parents’ absence can lead to emotional detachment. For example, children might feel neglected and resort to negative behavior to gain attention. This emotional gap can make teenagers more vulnerable to external influences like social media or peer pressure.

Having considered both sides of the issue, some people believe external factors are more significant contributors to teenagers’ social problems.Perhaps the main reason why people think this way is because societal influences, such as peer pressure and exposure to harmful content online, have increased significantly in recent years. As a result, teenagers often emulate negative behaviors they see in their environment.Secondly, schools and educational institutions may not always provide adequate support for teenagers facing challenges. This is because the focus is often on academic performance rather than emotional well-being. For example, students with behavioral problems may be overlooked, exacerbating the issue. It must be said that while parents’ limited time with their children can contribute to social problems, external factors such as societal and institutional influences also play a crucial role. In my opinion, addressing these challenges requires a collective effort from parents, schools, and society to ensure teenagers grow up in a supportive environment.
