Attaining an education is one of the essential needs these days. Unlike the past, when to get into a university. Nowadays, there is a lot more competition among students. According to my perspective it is an unwelcomed development.
To commence with, these competition among students occur on the basis of some high end theoretical exam performances. However, one academic test can not measure the amount of knowledge one have. To explain , there are certain number of students who are good at theoretical learning and cramming. Whereas, some students have practical skills more. Like we can talk about effective performing, students who memorise things would not perform that well as much as student with practical knowledge will perform. Because students who read only for exam most of the time forget a large extent of context they have read. So, we can say that these type of tests can be disadvantageous for students with practical knowledge.
Furthermore, competitions for getting into reputed universities leads to depression in plethora of students. Due to the parents expectations they feel burdened with responsibility. For instance, each year an exam named ‘suneung’ is conducted in south korea for high school students to get into an universities according to their rank in that exam. This pressure puts them into a depression which gives rise to suicidal thoughts in them. This has become a serious issue there, becoming a reason for number of death increase in students after results.
To conclude, it is asserted that competitive examinations are necessary to promote the brightest minds of any country. However, they should not be considered as an only learning way. Otherwise it will promote rote learning and lead to depression in youngsters.
