With the development of social media platforms, more and more teens are becoming influenced by both sports and media stars who show bad behaviour. In my opinion, this development does more harm than good.
Firstly, these kinds of stars create unrealistic expectations. A luxury life, expensive cars, and beauty are examples of wealth that many influencers present on social media, affecting the young generation. Teenagers think this is normal and feel pressure to look brilliant and become famous. For instance, some people chase a large number of viewers by creating offensive videos that can attract a lot of attention.
Another potential problem is the decline in science-related work. Nowadays, the number of people who have science-related jobs is steadily reducing, with our generation only being curious about sports and social media. For example, if we keep going like this, we will never be able to create innovative inventions for future generations.
Finally, celebrities frequently take part in unhealthy lifestyles. It is rare to observe what is happening behind the scenes of celebrities’ lives. They might practice illegal actions like using or selling drugs or provoking people, and young people may copy these habits since they respect them. For example, there are many cases when police caught a famous person with drugs.
In conclusion, the impact of idolising famous people by teens is clearly negative, in my opinion. Not only does it have a critical impact on a child’s expectations of the world, but it can also reduce the number of scholars around the world. What is more, some teenagers might even start their illegal path by following the dark road of their idol.
