The world is struggling to provide its growing population with enough food. According to some individuals, genetically modified foods are the most effective method in order to tackle the problem. I believe that although GM foods are one of the preferable ways, there are other alternatives that can be better solution for starving.
On the one hand, genetic engineering is considered as a potential technique to get abundant food in a short period of time. Firstly, the crop which cultivated in this way can be stored without being rotten or damaged by pests for a long term because of its resistance to harsh conditions. Secondly, GM products tend to grow faster and become ready for harvesting earlier compared to traditional method. For instance, genetically modified potato can reach its maturity in one and a half month after it is planted into the soil.
On the other hand, there are a few applicable ways of handling the problem of starving. Purchasing appropriate amount of food products that meet the daily needs of people and minimizing food waste can be one of these approaches. To make it clear, by allocating the same proportion of food corresponding to the number of living people on Earth we can diminish famine rate. For example, while most people in the USA are discarding food waste into the trash bin the deprived countries in Africa are dying from hunger. Moreover, increasing annual harvest may provide huge contribution to stop starving. Farmers can enhance the yield by highlighting agricultural methods. For example, improving soil quality, using robots for manual labor or recording and checking weather conditions before starting crop cultivation.
In conclusion, GMF is a proper tool in producing more food, yet there are other proper ways to feed the increasing population of the world, such as the same distribution of food among countries or give more focus on agricultural practices.
