The last few years have witnessed an unprecedented increase in trips launched to distant locations. Despite the fact that this trend has scrutinized advantageous influences on the natives, it can be detrimental to the environment. In this essay, both sides will be analyzed before a logical conclusion is drawn and my perspective is given.
On the one hand, the trend would generate merits for the local communities. For one thing, this novel tendency in the tourism sector is associated with the growth of the economy. Precisely, faraway destinations would promote workforce expansion and facilitate hiring as the demand for human resources in hospitality and other services increases. This in turn provides firm revenue for the native residents. Yet, no sooner had employment rates fostered than poverty levels were alleviated as well as the rise of living standards.
On the other hand, the aforementioned arguments can be considered from the opposite angle. The biggest challenge is that these areas could confront environmental issues. Notably, the influx of visitors may lay considerable pressure on the local environment as well as the biodiversity. This is owing to the fact that the rise in annual visitors would result in not only air pollution but also deforestation as hotels and tourist attractions are built. Also, the construction of infrastructure may lead to the drastic geological alteration of a region, meaning the loss of habitat for provincial species. On a closer examination, environmentalists and marine ecologists found that a significant amount of coral reefs surrounding Cozumel, Mexico, have been destroyed by cruise ships and scuba divers. Besides that, it is regarded that the remaining reefs have also been damaged by pollution from heavy boat traffic. Furthermore, a plethora of tourists flocking to these remote communities may trigger public safety threats as travelers can have bad-mannered behavior toward the customs of inhabitants or involve themselves in criminal offenses, for instance, pickpocketing, hooliganism, illegal possession of weapons or drugs.
In conclusion, the foregoing discussions cited above package holidays to remote areas. It is my conviction that this will bring far more adverse effects than desired ones as it is deleterious in terms of regional environment and public security.
