It is universally acknowledged that children are under parental pressure to become successful. In the following paragraphs, the causes of this phenomenon will be presented and whether this development is beneficial or adverse will also be discussed.
To commence with, there are some reasons lying behind the above-mentioned situation. First of all, when it comes to education, parents pin their hopes on their children in the hope that they will achieve academic remarks which might meet their parents’ immense satisfaction. This directly brings about a situation in which children are pushed for academic excellence. Besides, some parents themselves might not have fulfilled their dreams in their youths but still desire to achieve them in their current lives. Therefore, they apply their ambition on their offsprings in spite of whether these fantasies match their characters and traits. Their children consequently become stressful when having to pursue aspirations that are not their strengths or favors.
While there are many proponents of the idea that this trend is beneficial, I suppose that it can have devastating effects on children. First off, facing excessive pressure may result in their being prone to suffering chronic stress, anxiety, and even depression in children. Should this problem continue to occur, their mental and physical health will be impinged. Furthermore, not living up to their parents’ expectations can damage children’ self-esteem. Once their confidence is negatively affected, failure and disappointment can be fearsome towards children. Last but not least, feeling pressured and controlled can open the way for their attitudes of rebellion and hatred towards their parents. As a result, not only are family relationships strained but also communication among relatives may be damaged to a certain extent.
To conclude, this development happens as a result of some certain causes such as parental high expectation on academic performance and youth’s dream appliance on children. As regards whether this phenomenon is positive or negative, I suppose that it is a negative one since parental pressure gives rise to children’ well-being and self-esteem being damaged, even fosters rebellious characters inside each child.
