The Younger generation nowadays are under the prejudice of being succeeded by their parents, which leads to various reasons behind this social phenomenon. In my perspective, this point of view poses detrimental effects outweighing the positive ones.
First and foremost, the pressure of children has been caused by the shadows of parents’ success. Due to the shifting in social perspectives, people who have high levels of social status demand an extreme perfection of their reputation, reflected by their children. By that, parents will not only navigate their kids to achieve outstanding academic performances, but also determine their image through outward appearance, interests, extracurricular pursuits, even social circle. The fear of falling behind is another contributing factor that leads to parental anxiety, with the belief that coercing their offspring to develop comprehensively is the fastest way to career advancement and success compared to other children. As a result, some young people are forced to read novels, newspapers daily instead of comics, or replacing the playground and outdoor activities by enforcing out time study.
While parents may have positive intentions, the result shows the opposite impacts. Overwhelming amounts of knowledge or lack of spiritual entertainment has been the cause of physical trauma, eating disorder, depression, a phenomenon which has been spreading out in the young people lately. Additionally, imposing stereotypical children in the long-term is also hard to confront with unforeseen challenges and unfortunate problems. Consequently, children may struggle with life altering decisions as well as resilience.
In conclusion, I strongly believe avoiding unnecessary pressure on children during their growing period is compulsory. A child individually attached peer pressure, social expectation and parental standards would easily deep dive in seriously mental health and motivation.
