It is evident that an increasing number of children are being put under considerable pressure from parents to succeed in various aspects. This essay will examine two main causes behind this tendency and discuss its negative impact on the children as well as the relationships in the family.
A major reason for why more parents are becoming vigorous towards their children is due to their consideration of their children’s future. As most parents want their children to lead for a promising future, they might strictly educate the child so that they would not be left behind their peers. Therefore, in order to meet their parents expectations, many children are obligated to perform flawlessly at school. Additionally, societal expectations and peer pressure are other explanations for this tendency. To many parents, their children being inferior to their peers can contribute to resentment and enviousness, causing them to act harshly towards their children’s performance as a way to prove their status in the society and satisfy their aspirations.
Nevertheless, the rising number of children bearing extreme parental expectations has brought about various detrimental effects on the children. Excessive parental pressure can negatively affect the children’s behaviors and personalities, especially their mental health and well-being. Mental disorders such as depression or eating disorders can be resulted from excessive hours of studying or engaging in extracurricular activities. Furthermore, constant pressure from parents can lead to poor school performance. If children are continuously under high expectations, the possibility fear of making their parents disappointed might take over their studying ability.
In summary, increased parental pressure is primarily attributed to the desire for their children’s success and promising future, as well as the high expectations from society and peers. From my point of view, this trend can have an adverse bearing on children’s health and overall well-being.
