Striving for success will allow young people living in desirable life. Therefore, parents are putting significant pressure of becoming successful on their children. In this essay, I will elaborate on the reasons of this phenomenon and explain why it is a negative development.
There are several reasons why parents require their offspring to succeed. Firstly, they hope that their children can have a comfortable life. In today’s world, the living cost are becoming more and more expensive, especially in the cities. Therefore, majority of parents require their children get amission to top ranking universities, even that they are not interested in these majors and achieve a stable job with high salary to remain their life. For example, several traditional families obligate their offspring to pursue the jobs of teachers, doctors and polices while children have other dreams. In addition, some parents do not want their children to fall behind their peers. This is largely because when their children have poor academic results, some parents will receive criticism from teachers and other students’ parents, which makes them feel embarrassed. As a result, parents tend to require their offspring participate in various competitions and extracurricular classes after school-time with the expection that they can achieve better performance at school.
While most of parents put pressure on their children with expectation for a comfortable life, there are two challenges that children face. First, being under pressure for a long time can lead to stress. In the long-term, it results in extreme mental health problems such as lack of sleeping and even depression. Moreover, academic result can become terrible because pursuing the field that children are not keen on can lead to lack of studying efficiency and ambition. Clearly, children are suffering from severe drawbacks when their parents put various pressure on them.
In conclusion, while parents are putting significant pressure on their offspring with expectation that children will have better academic results and comfortable life, I firmly believe that children are facing serious challenges of this phenomenon such as mental health problems and lack of motivation in studying.
