These days, juveniles have been placed under intense pressure to live up to their guardians’ expectations of prosperity in life. While I acknowledge the potential benefits of this trend, I believe that this is a negative development.
Admittedly, there are some merits in putting pressure on adolescents as this can motivate the child to study harder. Take for example, when comparing a child with their peers, which will create competitiveness among them and this will make these children put in the effort and hard work to become the very best. This will also make children aware of learning and they will not likely to be bored or lazy when they study since they now have a goal and a purpose to study. As a result, these children will have better academic performance, and better scores which will be useful for their occupation in the future.
Despite the positives mentioned above, I believe that this is an unwelcome development for various reasons. Chief of these is that there are children who did their best to get a better result in learning, but they did not achieve their aim or what they wanted. This will make such children lack self-esteem, and these children will have doubts about their abilities because they are not as intelligent as their classmates are. In addition, too much pressure on children will affect their mental health with diseases such as anxiety disorder, and autism to name but a few, and children with such diseases will likely become the victim of bullies and this can even result in suicide.
In conclusion, I feel that this is an unwelcome development because putting intense pressure on children, can make the children lack confidence and suffer from mental illness.
