Band 7+: People nowadays are not as fit and active as they were in the past. What are the reasons for this? What measures can be taken for this?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

People today are generally less fit and more inactive than in the past, primarily because of technological advancements that have significantly reduced the need for physical effort in daily life. Experts assert that this trend is damaging for public well-being because it leads to a decline in public fitness. However, I believe that this problem can be effectively addressed by the increase in the number of sports facilities.

First and foremost, the main reason for the decrease in public fitness is the spread of technical innovations, which have considerably decreased the necessity of physical effort in day-to-day life. It is true to say that the lack of physical exercise among contemporary people is caused by technology because it automates processes that they should do by themselves, like farming, cooking, and cleaning. For example, a common modern house is almost fully automated. A dishwasher ensures the cleanliness of dishes, and a robot vacuum cleaner takes care of the floors, leaving no physical tasks for a human. This reduces the amount of physical activity people perform, ultimately lowering their overall fitness levels.

From my view, the best way to tackle this problem is the increase in the number of sports facilities. In fact, automation saves a considerable amount of time that people can spend on sports. However, there is an acute lack of accessible sports complexes and facilities, limiting opportunities for people to engage in exercise and maintain their fitness. For instance, in India, urbanization and automation have rapidly advanced in many parts of the country, but the development of public sports complexes and fitness facilities has not kept pace, leaving low fitness levels among Indians.

In conclusion, the main reason for the increase in unfit and inactive lifestyles among modern individuals is the spread of technology, which excludes physical efforts in primitive tasks. Personally, I believe the lack of fitness can be addressed by the introduction of sports complexes.
