In today’s globalized world, there is an ongoing debate about whether people should follow local customs and traditions when they travel abroad. While many people argued that travelers should adapt the culture where they go, others argued that people should maintain their own culture. In my opinion, although adapting new environment is crucial for interacting with local residents, new comers should not fully abandon their own traditions.
One important reason why immigrants respect local customs is that this approach mitigates mutual conflicts. This can be explained by the fact that if people adapt new traditions and cultural behaviors quickly, they might have greater opportunities to access social interaction. For instance, immigrants who wear new national clothes or learn greeting habits, they are easily approved by local individuals. Therefore, adaptation plays a crucial role in social engagement.
Another key point is that completely moving to another nation leads to harmful consequences for people’s original culture. This is because abandoning the national traditions may prevent from being perpetuated. For example, many people who move abroad stop speaking their native language even at home. Consequently, this leads to loss of cultural identity.
In conclusion, although there are arguments on both sides, I strongly believe that, individual must maintain their cultural heritage and norms. Moreover, people who travel to another country, initially, should learn about that culture and traditions.
