In this day and age, the number of people living abroad is increasing remarkably, leading to the fact that these immigrants should adopt the customs and traditions of the new nation. In my perspective, I strongly largely agree with this statement due to several reasons related to their connection with the new society.
Admittedly, it is true that following a new culture’s norms immediately is challenging, especially for adults whose years has been accustomed to their original country. For instance, living abroad requires individuals to learn a new language which includes not only communication skills but also to be comprehensive about slangs, fast conversations and even implicit jokes. This complexity makes the entire journey of living harmoniously in a new country extremely difficult, not even regarding the complication of the new customs and traditions system. Moreover, people who choose to live in other countries are not automatically there permanently. Particularly, some decide to live abroad for career opportunities or connect with foreign friends as a long trip. Thus, following customs and traditions is understandable to show respect to natives, but not in a radical way which could potentially lead to homogenisation.
That said, I do believe that deliberately learning and following the customs and traditions of the new country is very crucial if individuals want to have the best conditions of living there. Specifically, understanding deeply about one country’s traditions allows immigrants to connect with the new community much more easily. When people can talk smoothly about one specific topic, especially traditions and customs of the majority of the group, it could help bond their relationships, thereby enhancing the mood and minimising the challenges when moving to a new country. Perhaps individuals cannot adopt it constantly, natives might realize the effort of those from other countries to connect with the new society, which might encourage natives to help immigrants, leading to a peaceful neighborhood.
In conclusion, despite following the customs and traditions when living in other countries is hard and not really beneficial for certain individuals, I believe that this is the best way to help individuals connect with a new society and natives for a better living condition.
