Nowadays, there is a growing consensus that people should never put their life and the life of exemplary individuals on social media on perspective. I partially disagree with this stance, as I still believe that this action may bring about certain benefits to some extent.
It is without doubt that several drawbacks will result if people make comparisons of themselves with grace profiles posted online, as this action would bring them a sentiment of discontentment and inferiority. This comparison, in fact, might be irrational, because there’s every chance for people twisting the information to boast, as well as even if the truly excellent people appears on social media, they are individuals with exceptional talents far beyond ordinary capacity. Henceforth, people might become insecure and self-conscious about their abilities, for instance, choose to stay in their comfort zone as opposed to take risk for fresh scope. This long-term recurrence debilitates people’s stamina and can lead to extreme anxiety and depression.
Nonetheless, I would contend that marking contrast with people who have desirable lives on social media may give rise to certain advantages. First and foremost, this phenomenal may yield personal incentive to attain a great aim, such as a longing dream. The act of witnessing other’s triumph, from time to time, spurs people to endeavor and take action in order to improve their competency, therefore creating better version of themselves. Additionally, people can enhance several good traits by compare themselves with those who are better, for example, self-awareness and humble, hence, they can understand their current position to make more effort.
In conclusion, while there are undeniable drawbacks to comparing oneself to others on social media, such as feelings of insecurity and anxiety, it can also offer potential benefits, including motivation for self-improvement and the development of valuable traits like self-awareness and humility. Ultimately, the impact of social media comparisons depends on how individuals choose to engage with them—whether they allow them to foster self-doubt or use them as a source of inspiration for personal growth.
