It is believed that making early career plans and sticking with them permanently brings more job satisfaction than changing jobs regularly. While I acknowledge the advantages of deciding on future jobs early in terms of financial stability, I also believe that switching occupations frequently helps individuals understand themselves better. Therefore, I only support this notion to a certain degree.
On the one hand, there are several valid reasons why making early job decisions can bring more satisfaction. Chief among these is that it provides a stable income throughout one’s career, which allows employees to concentrate on their jobs effectively without needing to worry about daily financial pressures. Furthermore, deciding on an occupation early gives people more time to do deep and accurate research about that job, which makes them less shocked and more experienced in their chosen field. A prime example of this is that many high schools in Viet Nam have started helping students choose their career paths from Grade 10. Based on students’ talents and favorite subjects, schools provide a range of useful advice and related career options for them. This has resulted in a better employment rate and lower stress among the younger generation.
On the other hand, I am of the opinion that changing jobs regularly should not be overlooked due to its various impacts. The most prominent point is that this contributes to better self-understanding because changing jobs regularly means trying many different occupations until people find a suitable one for themselves. Not only does this help individuals gain a clearer understanding of their strengths and weaknesses, but it also offers them an opportunity to experience many different fields, which can strengthen their CV before coming to a final career choice. Without switching jobs frequently, lots of young people would likely face ambiguity and indecision in career planning, which clearly demonstrates the importance of this factor.
In conclusion, although planning our career early offers certain benefits regarding financial stability and a higher chance of securing a permanent job, I believe that changing jobs regularly is equally essential for exploring our strengths and weaknesses, which is useful before making a final decision. The ideal approach lies in striking a balance between these two factors based on our needs.
