Nowadays, people are tending to migrate to the cities. The main reason for that is the living standards in cities are higher than in rural areas, as well as the income of people. Cities provide people with modern, high-quality conditions for working and studying and, a wide range of job opportunities. However, this trend has led to increased population density in cities, resulting in other adverse consequences such as traffic congestion, shortages of electricity, water, housing, and public health services, especially the problem of air pollution. This essay will describe the air pollution in cities and propose some solutions to help the citizens solve this problem.
As I noticed, the cause of pollution in cities is the growth of population because the more people live in one place, the higher the number of vehicles in operation. The roads of big cities are often dusty and polluted. Especially during rush hours, at intersections, the high density of vehicles not only causes traffic jams, but the exhaust gases emitted by vehicles when stopping at red lights cause respiratory problems and discomfort for people in the vicinity. In addition, there are many factories, enterprises, and export processing zones in cities. Therefore, emission in the city is not only concentrated in the lower floors, where vehicles circulate but also filled in the sky. Vehicle exhaust and toxic emissions from factories are believed to affect citizens’ health, potentially leading to various dangerous diseases, including cancer. Generally, the problem of air pollution that city dwellers have to deal with every day significantly impacts their daily lives, leading to health issues, reduced quality of life, and increased healthcare costs.
Continuously, the essay will present some solutions to help improve the air quality in the city. The first solution is that people should actively plant more trees in their housing spaces and participate in tree-planting activities in parks or greening the living environment program launched by local authorities. These activities are currently extremely popular in schools, however, the main participants are students, so the locality should actively promote and encourage residents in the city to participate. Another solution is that the government should build a better quality public transportation system and have appropriate policies to limit the use of personal vehicles when participating in traffic. Besides that, to reduce industrial emissions, we can apply measures such as improving energy efficiency, converting to clean and renewable energy sources, improving production processes and waste management practices, and strengthening environmental inspection and monitoring.
In conclusion, to reduce air pollution, which is considered the main concern due to high levels of particulate matter, the government is attempting to improve the quality of life for the citizens by controlling air pollution. Nevertheless, that is not enough. Every city resident should actively coordinate with the government’s reasonable policies and measures, and cultivate their knowledge about protecting the living environment.
