Every child should get an opportunity to learn how to play a musical instrument. However, some people believe that playing a musical instrument is the greatest achievement a child can make. For many reasons, I agree with this point of view.
For starters, learning how to play a musical instrument teaches children invaluable life skills like patience, discipline, and diligence. Undoubtedly, the ability to commit several hours to the mastery of an instrument shows dedication, and highlights the importance of sacrifice and responsibility. Although these positive habits may be difficult to communicate to a child verbally, through the refining of their skills by regular playing of his/her desired instrument, the child is equipped with valuable lessons.
Furthermore, the feeling of accomplishment which a child gets to experience once he/she has mastered the fundamentals of playing the instrument would serve as positive feedback to the child. This would also encourage him/her go on to achieve more life goals as they grow up. Many of the most successful people in the world today have a history of playing one or two instruments as children.
In contrast, there are other ways to instill the feeling of responsibility in a growing child such as through sports or scientific achievements. Also, some may argue musical instruments may isolate the child. But, the overall advantages of playing an instrument outweigh the few disadvantages.
To conclude, playing an instrument can bring mountains of satisfaction and life building skills necessary for child development. For these reasons, it may just be the greatest achievement for a child.
